Inauguration

Thumbs up indeed

What this presidency means to me
It is not just a historic event, not just a book end to the civil rights movement, it is transcendental, something a lot simpler and yet a lot more meaningful. It is proof of the audacity of hope, proof that if you put your mind, body and soul to it, you can be whatever you want to be.

So my change will be not to let the colour of my skin dictate what I can or cannot be, not to let other people tell me what I can or cannot be, but be who I was meant to be.

"I know where I'm going and I know the truth and I don't have to be what you want me to be..I'm free to be what I want"-Muhammad Ali

Inauguration Trivia:

Pastor T.D.Jakes read from Daniel 3 and his son finished with 'may the force be with you,' an ode to Star Wars.

Because of the stumble by Chief Justice Roberts, President Obama (nice ring...President) took the oath of office twice on Tuesday 20th, then Wednesday 21st.

The oath was taken at the Capitol building, which was built by African slaves on the bible that Abe Lincoln took his oath.

Over 3million people descended into the National Mall for the occasion, with the tightest security measures ever seen in the history of Inaugurations.

Being inaugurated as the President is like marriage...to a country and it's people and there are vows (oath of office) to 'preserve, protect and defend,'

the Etta James classic 'At last' is symbolic on many fronts
the 1st Afro American President is in the White House
the journey he started in 2000 has really begun
we get to see Michelle O's Inaugural Ball dress

The Obama girls have dolls made in their honour.

No incoming president has ever given an outgoing one a gift.

In her continued support of relatively unknown designers, Michelle O wore a lemon grass ensemble from Cuban-American designer Isabel Toledo (wife of my fave fashion illustrator Ruben Toledo) and the white one shoulder dress by Taiwanese born Jason Wu.

First dance *sigh*

What people are talking about

The Miracle on Hudson

US Airways Flight 1549

I have a massive fear of flying and water, so when I saw...yes I saw this happening live (well on the news anyways) a plane landing in the Hudson's murky icy waters I just cramped. That was some scary ish, I mean it was surreal looking at people standing on the wings of a plane in the middle of the Hudson and of course the 1st thing that ran through my mind was 9/11...but it wasn't. Regardless everyone wants to fly C.B. "Sully" Sullenberger , dude had 80 seconds to assess the situation, devise a plan and land his plane with minimal loss of life...I want to be on his plane.

The I-day (Inauguration day)

Obama Train

Yay, can't wait though I know DC will be packed. There are some parallels between Soon to be Prez Obama and Abe Lincoln, can' wait to hear the Inaugural speech, ya'll know it'll be charismatic and inspiring...and Hollywood damn near emptied as everyone who's anyone beat down a track to Washington.

What Mrs O will be wearing

Something designer, Bey Bey will perform Etta James' "At last" for the 1st dance for the First Couple. Lovin Mrs O sexy "yeah-you-know-that's-my man" pout;)

The whole world is watching...

Holidays are over

Sydney fireworks display

It was a rather impromptu thing, getting on a plane with the Bf and flying to Australia for the holidays. Granted I didn't miss the negative temperatures and all. I have to say though I loved the Sydney fireworks, and Paris Hilton was Down Under at the same time (great another Barbie).

Anyway the holidays were wonderful and I hope everyone else's were too, unfortunately they were marred by the Gaza conflict, I honestly don't get it, the Jews are supposed to be God's People, WTF?! It was that and the fact that the Obamas were not allowed to stay at the Blair House, funny because the Former PM of Aus is staying there and there's bad blood between him and Barack. Guess this is George's revenge for Barack bashing him in the campaign(lols). Speaking of the Prez elect and soon to be former, they had lunch with the other living presidents (would have loved to be a fly on the wall).

Still badly jet lagged, but will start posting again soon.

I managed to get my results 2 High Distinctions and 2 Distinctions, not bad.

The weekly update

Started the semester finals on Monday, and it’s just my luck that the last one is in a few hours time. Funny how exam time changes people because it seems you all have this one thing in common, this inevitable thing, that’s gut wrenching and stressing. I discovered this when I was sitting outside of the exam room and this girl walked towards me...well towards the room to be exact. She then proceeded to greet me...by name and ask how I was. Of course the fact that she knew my name threw me off a bit, there are some people you see around but never talk to and therefore never consider that they would know your name. After all there is something intimate about a person’s name. We proceeded to discuss the exams questions we might face.
Even the Barbies are being very friendly, which is kinda weird and unnerving, considering that they are Barbies all the time. Exam time changes people...I’ll be glad when it’s over as I am in need of a well deserved break.

In Obama News

Of course with the inaugaration looming evryone is debating on what Mrs. O should wear and the top name designers are falling over each other and getting their sketches in. Personally I have three favourites. One by my favourite designer Christian Lacroix for the dramatic-ness of it all

, and then every bride’s fave designer Monique Lhuiller for something glamourous

and then last but not least perennial First Lady favourite Oscar de la Renta for the sheer simplicity and elegance

Thanksgiving Take 2

The Obamas braved the cold to hand out thanksgiving meals. And I was thankful, that I was almost done with my degree, I had a job in the financial services area when a lot of people were losing theirs, that I have a Bf who loves me, that I was not in Mumbai ( still praying for everyone there - there is a heart breaking story of a little boy his name's Moshe[means saviour] whose parents ran the Jewish centre Chabad House, they were killed in front of him). Sad, just sad.

These are trying times we live in, I look back and think I want to be a kid again and not have all these worries, because it seems then, that life was not harsh.

It's all political

Apparently the prez was buying the new Mrs O a $30k ring, peanuts compared to Bee's $5m Lorraine Schwartz bauble, of course it's all rumour, why do people always suffer from PHDs (pull him/her down syndrome??) Anways word is that people are out to make them to be elitist and not down to earth, watevs *rolls eyes*

I am however loving the dual Essence cover, it's going to be worth a mint in 10 years time. Mrs O brings the hotness and if she wasn't married to him, I'd jack him and make a baby daddy, all that swagger on one man ain't good.

Speaking of politics, the Secretary of State is Hillary Clinton, interesting choice, good one nonetheless.

Music minute

OMG I am loving me some Sol-angel, chick has been underrated, suppose that's what happens when your sister is Bee. I felt her since her Feelin u days but chick went and stepped up her game with T.O.N.Y. which has been on replay much to my Bf's annoyment...LOL. I also dropped some extra hard hints as to my christmas pressie...the album of course!

Love the ending with the photo of her and her son, beautiful.

Knocked out of my Obama fever

So my birthday has come and gone and I did not notice, well not that I didn’t notice I have just been on a high since Nov 4. Well that was until yesterday. In my final class before holidays if you call them that one of the Barbies went and complained that a mid term was highly unfair as it required knowledge that she did not possess. The gall of that girl!! What’s worse was that she batted her pretty little long lashes and the Dean of the school said yes, you are right. I mean seriously pick up any newspaper and it’ll tell you about the financial crisis come on; it’s even in the rags that she reads. It’s funny because we have actually had some genuinely serious complaints regarding other lecturers but when we voiced those concerns we were told to suck it up!! Hypocrisy, discrimination!!

So sad that the whole of the sunshine state is on fire, I mean damn shame. P.s Barack is one of the GQ men of the year *sigh* pure hawtness (Michelle O is one lucky 1st lady- totally addicted to their love fests now- keep it real).

Anyway I am going to turn the blind eye. Onto other disturbing news, I am going to Australia mate*hehehe* had to chuck that in there sometime next year, after the inauguration obviously so I got a friend to help me move some of my ish into storage. Now my friend has been dating this oafish, possessive guy for the past year (seriously in her case love is definitely blind) and she volunteered to help. All cool with me till her dude got involved now he all up in face acting like he’s king and I should be all sorts of grateful, n*gga stop, I almost went and did a b*tch please on his as*. Now I have a feeling that my friend, well she ain’t going to be one for long.

I wonder is there anyone who lost a girl/boyfriend because of their or maybe your relationship?
Speak on it.

Been darn cold of late.
